Nissan India, launched their low cost brand, Datsun in the Auto Expo held in Delhi earlier this year, with only one product named Datsun GO. Now the company is looking forward to expand in the Indian markets and they have chosen one of the most competitive segments, MPV, for this purpose. Datsun Go was a very ambitious project for the Nissan, though it failed to create much of the impact among the Indian buyers.
Newly appointed head of Nissan Motors, Guillaume Sicard, although seems hopeful about the Go hatchback and said "The Datsun (hatchback) has received positive response. The product is recognized as a quality product and its delivery is up to our expectations". Datsun GO marked the global comeback of the brand and is priced between Rs 3.12 lakh and Rs 3.70 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).
Talking of the Go+ MPV, it will be a seven seater multi purpose vehicle and can be powered by a 1,198cc 3 cylinder 12 valve petrol engine, which can produce a maximum power of 68PS @5000rpm and a peak torque of 104nm @4000rpm, coupled to a 5-speed manual gearbox.
Nissan has done well in the in the April-September quarter with a registered sales of 25,741 units, as against 12,515 units in the same period last fiscal, up by 105.68%. Sicard said "We want to increase the sales of our two brands - Nissan and Datsun. Today we are at full speed, we want to continue to grow further." on the growth in the sales this year.
The Datsun Go+ MPV has been in sales in Indonesia for quite a some time now and priced at Rp85 million (Rs 4.42 lakh) for base variant and Rp102.9 million (Rs 5.36 lakh) for the top end model. We expect the Indian pricing to be somewhere around the same price range, giving a stiff competition to the rivals in this segment including Maruti Ertiga, Chevrolet Enjoy and Honda Mobilio.
