Alongside the unveiling of the IMx concept, Nissan has unveiled the introduction of the Canto, the sound of the future Nissan electric cars. “Canto” is derived from a Latin word which means “I sing”.
The Executive Vice President of Sales and Global Marketing at Nissan, Daniele Schillaci has said that the way a vehicle integrates into a society is an important element of Nissan Intelligent Mobility. One crucial factor of this element is sound. Canto has been so developed as to make it safer for the pedestrians, besides providing a distinct sound to Nissan cars.
The sound of Canto will vary both in tone and pitch depending on the state the car is in. The distinction of sound will help the pedestrians to understand whether the car is accelerating, decelerating or backing up. This sound technology will be activated at speeds of up to 20 km/hr to 30 km/hr depending on the requirements of the auto market.
Nissan has created the “Canto” sound system with the goal of developing sound alerts as a major priority. However, the company has also taken care of the sound level that will be produced the Canto technology. The sound will be clearly audible to the nearby pedestrians but will not be too loud or annoying or disturbing to the residents and passengers.
Nissan has pioneered the field of vehicle sound since 2010 with the significant development of the “Approaching Vehicle Sound” system for the pedestrians. Moreover, the “Nissan Intelligent Mobility” is the company’s way of changing the way cars are integrated into the society. It also denoted how cars are driven and powered, with both physical as well as mechanical elements coming into play.
