Much like most of the automakers around the world, Nissan too has unveiled a concept vehicle at the ongoing Tokyo Motor Show. The new Nissan IMx concept will be a fully electric vehicle along with autonomous capabilities as well.
The company hasn’t been much verbal when it comes to revealing details about its future plans in the field of EVs. However, the product planning chief at Nissan has said that the company will be entering the electric crossover segment soon.
The way the new Nissan IMx concept EV is built and planned, it is well on course to revolutionize the way SUV have been traditionally perceived. Normally, SUVs have a high center of gravity, which almost kills the overall driving dynamics. However, the new SUV will get the heavy battery packs right under the floor which would help in lowering the center of gravity and will improve the driving dynamics.
Keeping in mind the Nissan IMx concept is an autonomous car, it is also a medium to showcase the company’s next generation of the semi-autonomous ProPilot system. The semi-autonomous system has been adapted to offer a complete autonomous technology. Once the autonomous mode kicks in, the steering wheel retracts into a dashboard. Moreover, all the seats recline further to offer passenger comfort in the autonomous mode.
Just like most other concepts, the interiors of the unveiled Nissan IMx concept has a minimalistic design. The infotainment system seems to be wide. However, the display screens can be monitored by artificial intelligence with features like gesture and eye movement controls. This has also helped the interiors to be clutter-free.
Earlier, Nissan had hinted at a plan in which it could launch a range of electric vehicles. This suggests that the international launched of this Leaf-like SUV could just be a couple of years away.
