There is no denying from the fact that air-pollution has reached to the beyond endurance level in the recent times. The Government is trying to implement everything they can from banning diesel cars to odd-even rules and more to keep the pollution levels under check. According to recent reports, the Government has launched a pilot programme to kit two-wheelers with Compressed Natural Gas (CNG). The program is known as ‘Hawa Badlo’ and was launched yesterday at the CGO Complex CNG station.
Indraprastha Gas Ltd (IGL) has already initiated the programme by retro-fitting 50 two-wheelers with CNG kits. This programme is a joint initiative by country’s largest CNG distribution company - Indraprastha Gas Ltd (IGL) and Gas Authority Limited (GAIL). The CNG kits for the two-wheelers have been approved by the Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI) and according to the study this kit reduces hydrocarbon emissions by 75 per cent. When compared to regular petrol-powered two-wheelers, the kit also helps in reduction of carbon monoxide emissions by 20 per cent. In last 4 months, IGL has come up with 70 new CNG stations and 20 more such facilities are in the pipeline.
