The sales figures for the October 2014 are out and Maruti has topped the list. October month was seen as an important month due to festivals and the sales expectations were high, but interestingly enough, it saw a dip in the sales volume when compared to last year data. The list comprises of nine manufacturers and we bring a graphical study of the same.
Maruti Suzuki India: Maruti Suzuki, the Japanese auto-major yet again topped the sales list with 103973 units in October 2014 as compared to 105087 units in October 2013, a marginal dip of 1%. Maruti also faired in October as compared to the September sales, thanks to the newly launched premium sedan, Ciaz. According to a latest report, Ciaz managed to cross 17000 units in just a month of its launch on 6th October. Now that Maruti has updated the beloved hatchback Swift and also the cheapest AMT, new Alto K10, they will be hopeful of doing well in the coming months too.
Hyundai Motors India: Hyundai is the only manufacturer which is often considered a major rival to Maruti. They were able to record a handsome amount 56010 units, a 12% increase over the last year figures when they clocked 50212 units. The credit for the increased sales goes to the Elite i20, which is doing good in the premium hatchback segment. Although, Hyundai posted a significant growth from the last month when they sold about 35000 units.
Tata Motors: And finally Tata Motors overtook M&M in sales thanks to the Zest! Sales of the passenger vehicles for Tata Motors has always been a big issue, but the newly launched Zest proved a game changer for the Tata. They clocked 42819 units overtaking Mahindra in sales. Although, they posted a dip of 17% as they sold 51368 units in 2013 October, still this a significant improvement over the September sales when they recorded only 11,931 units.
Mahindra & Mahindra: M&M, famous for making all sorts of utility vehicles gave its flagship Scorpio, a much needed update, and that helped Mahindra a lot in the October sales as they were able to sell 42776 units in October 2014. They registered a dip of about 15% as they sold 50558 units in October 2013, it is definitely an improvement over last month sales when they sold 19,893 units. Mahindra is expected to launch new SUV's in coming months and that will surely boost their sales.
Toyota Kirloskar Motor: The Japanese autogiant can be the largest automobile seller in the world, but in India, their sales figures are not that good, the reason being a limited set of cars. Toyota was able to sell 13,716 units in October 2014, with a decline of 11.94% over the 15,576 units in October, 2013. Toyota recently gave a mild facelift to the Etios Liva and Etios hatchback.
Honda Cars India: Honda is known for their rugged and reliable engines. Generally, recording good sales numbers and ahead of other Japanese manufacturers, this time Honda is overtaken by Toyota. Honda recorded a sales figure of 13,242 units in the October, 2014, a good 18%more than the October 2013 when they were able to sell only 11,214 units. Honda credits the sales growth to the new diesel engine and ever selling Honda City.
Ford India: Ford India has a successful festive season with a recorded sales of 11630 units as compared to 6,786 units of September 2014. Although they suffered a big dip of 22.12% as they sold 14935 unit sin the month of October 2013. Ford will launch its new Endeavour in the coming months as well as the Figo sedan.
Chevrolet Motors: Chevorlet suffered a big dip in their sales with a negative growth of 44.80%. They managed to sell only 4263 units last month as compared to 7715 units in October 2014. Chevrolet recently gave an update to their hatchback Beat and the Sedan, Sail.
Nissan India: Nissan India is on a constant track from last month sales of 4145 units to 4106 units for this month. Although they recorded a negative growth of 15.86% as they sold 4880 units in October 2013. They recently unveiled a compact SUV concept in Brazil, though it is not yet clear if it will come to Indian shores anytime soon.
