Fiat India has started accepting bookings for the much awaited high-performance Abarth Punto hatchback, nationwide. The hot hatch is scheduled to launch next month and one can book it by paying Rs. 50,000 at any company authorized dealership. Just so you know, Abarth Punto would be powered by a 1.4L T-Jet engine with power output of 145bhp, henceby making it the most powerful hatchback made in India.
According to the Italian automajor's official release, "FCA India is looking forward to cash in on the festive season by launching the “Made in India” Abarth, the iconic Italian brand with a racing DNA and a great tradition of performance." The Abarth version of Punto would come with several cosmetic changes over the regular model. It would flaunt Scorpion-shaped alloy wheels, sporty decals, and Abarth badging at the outside, while the cabin would be similar to the top-end variant of Fiat Punto. For those asking, Abarth Punto's ground clearance would be 20mm lesser than the standard Punto. Also, both the suspensions at front and rear have been tweaked, alongside offering improved braking system. As for safety, the hot hatch is expected to come with dual front airbags and Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) as standard.
Mechanically, as stated before, the Abarth Punto would come loaded with a 1.4L, 4-cylinder T-Jet motor. This engine would deliver 145bhp of top power and 200Nm of peak torque. It would be linked to a 5-speed manual transmission. Fiat India, at the time of Abarth brand's official launch in India last month, showcased the high-performance Punto at Buddh International Circuit (BIC). The Abarth Punto would be manufactured locally and is expected to come with a sticker price of Rs. 10 Lakhs (Ex. Showroom). For your information, pseudo-crossover Avventura would also get a high-performance Abarth version and it would be launched next year.
