BMW, the German luxury automaker, has officially announced that the all-new 2016 BMW M2 would have its world debut at the 2016 Detroit Auto Show on January 11. The M2 Coupe is reported to be more powerful than its predecessor 1 M Coupe. It would go on sale by April 2016 in the United States, while pricing is not announced yet.
2016 BMW M2 boasts of lightweight aluminium M Sport suspension setup, while introducing the newly developed 3.0L, 6-cylinder in-line M TwinPower Turbo engine. This engine develops a maximum power of 366bhp at 6,500 rpm and peak torque of 465 Nm, which can be further increased to as much as 500 Nm in short bursts under overboost. The engine is coupled with an optional 7-speed M Double Clutch Transmission (M DCT) and Launch Control to accelerate from standstill to 100kmph in just 4.3 seconds. Top speed is electronically limited to 250kmph or 270kmph if the M Driver’s Package is specified. Yet, with its M DCT transmission, fuel consumption of just 7.9 litres per 100 kms. and CO2 emissions of only 185 g/km, the car is also keen to emphasise its outstanding efficiency.
The BMW M2 also features Dynamic Stability Control system, which has the M Dynamic Mode (MDM). Once the MDM is activated, an individual can have controlled drifts on the track due to wheel slip. Just so you know, the new BMW X4 M40i, would also have its global debut at the 2016 Detroit Auto Show in January, alongside the M2 coupe. The M40i is the flagship model in BMW's X4 lineup and does a 0-100kmph sprint in less than 5 seconds.
