Chevrolet India has officially announced that it would launch the Spin MPV in the country in 2016. Chevrolet Spin MPV has already been spied testing on the Indian roads, albeit in heavily camouflaged mode. The company also announced that it would launch the Trailblazer SUV this year in India with major focus towards increasing company’s export activity. In 2015, the company plans to export around 19,000 cars to nearly 40 countries.
The news of both these products launching in India was shared with GM India dealers during their annual meeting in Bangkok on February 13. “GM India’s focus is on significantly expanding its presence in the Indian market by enriching its products, quality and the entire purchasing experience,” said Arvind Saxena, president and managing director, General Motors India.
“Our dealers are a big part of ensuring that Chevrolet builds customers for life", added Saxena. “We recognize the growth potential of India and are focused on the fundamentals to ensure long-term sustainability,” said GM Executive Vice President and GM International President Stefan Jacoby. “We know that begins by offering high quality, exciting and competitive products for our customers”, concluded Jacoby.
General Motors Spin MPV measures 4360mm in length, 1,735 mm in width and 1,656 mm in height. The MPV is already on sale in several countries like Philippines, Thailand and Indonesia. The test mule spied on Indian roads was imported from Indonesia and carried a Fiat-sourced 1.3L Multi-jet diesel engine. It is also available with a set of 4-cylinder petrol engines, which are a 1.2L motor and a 1.5L unit. It is being offered with manual transmission as standard, while 6-speed automatic gearbox comes an optional feature with the 1.5L engine.
It would be pitted against the likes of Maruti Suzuki Ertiga and Honda Mobilio in the Indian market, when it launches in 2016.
