Hyundai India has finally confirmed that i20 Active would make its global debut on March 18, 2015 in India. Being based on the existing Elite i20's platform, it would be the company's first crossover offering in the country. The company recently revealed the first design sketches of the i20 Active crossover, which is being designed at Hyundai Motor's Design Centre Europe in Russelsheim, Germany.
Hyundai i20 Active is distinguished from the regular hatchback version by adding a shade of sportiness. It flaunts projector headlamps with daytime running lights (DRLs), a new skid plate, revised bumper with bigger fog lamp enclosures etc. at the front fascia. At the rear too, it gets multiple changes, albeit subtle in form of redesigned bumper with circular reflector and silver skid plate. In addition, Hyundai engineers have incorporated an array of sporty elements such as alloy wheels, additional plastic body cladding, roof spoiler and roof rails in the i20 Active crossover. In fact, the i20 Active would come with increased ground clearance as compared to the Elite i20 hatchback, in order to tackle uneven roads.
Inside the cabin, the new crossover is expected to be boasting a new upholstery, an updated touch-screen infotainment system and few more premium features. Mechanically, it would feature the same engines as the sibling hatchback Elite i20 in both the petrol and diesel fuel trims. However, power output, torque performance and fuel economy might differ a bit. Hyundai i20 Active Crossover would be up against the existing crop of pseudo-crossovers in the country such as Volkswagen Cross Polo, Toyota Etios Cross, and Fiat Avventura.
