Mercedes-Benz India has officially announced the launch of keenly-awaited AMG GT supercar on November 24, 2015 in the country. More importantly, the India-spec model would be the more powerful GT S version. Just so you know, Mercedes-Benz AMG GT S would be the company's 14th launch this year in India, with one more to go as per its strategy of launching of 15 new models in 2015 in India. The AMG GT is seen as the successor to the German luxury automaker's SLS AMG supercar.
Mercedes-Benz AMG GT has been engineered and developed at the company's AMG performance car division in Affalterbach, Germany. The exterior styling of the AMG GT takes cues from the SLS AMG supercar. However, one can clearly notice that AMG GT looks quite upmarket and contemporary as compared to the SLS AMG due to the disappearance of SLS’s heavy doors. Moreover, the GT S supercar is quite lighter in weight. Powering the supercar is a 4.0L V8 engine, which generates 456bhp of top power with the standard GT, while the India-bound GT S version has a maximum power output of 503bhp. For those asking, the 4.0L motor features twin turbochargers and the company strongly believes that it would contribute in reducing emissions.
Mercedes-AMG GT S gets the 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, which is a re-engineered version of Getrag gearbox used on the SLS supercar. It would transmit the power to the rear wheels of the high-performance supercar. Mercedes has officially stated that the AMG GT S takes a mere 3.8 seconds to touch the 100kmph mark from standstill, while the top speed is rated at 310kmph. Mercedes-AMG GT S rivals the likes of Jaguar F-type R coupe, Porsche 911 Carrera GTS, and Audi R8 V10 Plus.
