The Japanese multinational car manufacturer Nissan, is all set to launch the much awaited compact SUV the Terrano on 20th August 2013 in Mumbai, India. The Terrano will be the competitor for the now ruling Renault Duster in the compact SUV segment of India. It was also designed on Duster’s platform, according to Nissan. They also said that the Terrano will be, what the Duster is to Renault, and said that this compact SUV will be Nissans access tag into the rapidly growing compact SUV segment in India.
When the rendered images of the Terrano are analyzed, though it is on the Duster’s platform, the outside has many changes and the inside will have a few tweaks as well. All these changes have given the new compact SUV a diverse look, when compared with the rest of the now in-production SUVs. It has the Nissan touch, which all the cars of the company have in common.
Although the Terrano is just a re-skinned version of the Duster, it will have many aspects that separates it from the Duster, like the front and back of the SUV has got a complete makeover. It is absolutely nothing like the Duster whatsoever. The front of the SUV is will now have a more angular grille, bumper and headlights. The rear of the Terrano is equipped with cool new stop-lamps, which half of it, is on the rear door, that somewhat resembles the rear lights of the Ford Ecosport. It also has a semi-rectangular exhaust vent. Not just that the sheet metal work also has many changes, like now the entry panels are a tuck nearer to the operation panel and much more.
It is expected that the SUV will have a rectangle shaped AC vents on the center, with silver enunciations on the steering helm. It will also have better interior quality than the Duster. But unlike the interior and exterior the car’s heart under the hood will be the same as Dusters. It will also house a 1.5 liter K9K diesel block, one with 83.8 BHP and the other one with 108.5 BHP. Nissan has also prepared a 1.6 liter petrol that has the maximum output of 102.6 BHP. All these 3 locomotives are mounted with a 5 speed manual transmission.
Price wise the Terrano is predicted to be valued at 9 lakhs for the base version. So that basically means that the Terrano will cost more that the Duster, whose current MRP is 7.99 lakhs for the base version. The Terrano will be available in four models, the XL, XL (O), XV and XV premium.
