Tata Motors has commenced the series production of the all-new Altroz hatchback in the country. The company rolled out the first unit of the hatch from its Pune facility today. It will be officially launched in January 2020 in the Indian market in an approx. the price range of Rs 5-8 Lakhs (Ex. Showroom).
Being the first Tata car to be based on the all-new ALFA architecture, the Altroz will be introduced with BS 6 certified petrol and diesel engines.
Tata Altroz will be the second company car after the Harrier to flaunt the Impact design 2.0 language. The production version of the hatch, previewed at 2019 Geneva Motor Show, doesn't boast of many updates to the 45X Concept which had debuted at the 2018 Auto Expo.
The cabin will house several premium features such as a floating 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a new steering wheel and a partially digital instrument cluster, which will be a first-in-segment. The Altroz could also get Ambient Lighting and Google Assitant (Voice command powered by Google) feature if rumors are to be believed.
Tata Altroz will be the broadest hatch in the segment while having the smallest wheelbase. Though the boot capacity of 341 is decent and at par with its foes.
Mechanically, it is believed to be available with engine options: Tiago-sourced naturally aspirated 1.2L 3-cylinder petrol engine with 85bhp, Nexon-sourced 1.2L 3-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine with 102bhp and a Nexon-sourced 1.5L 4-cylinder turbocharged diesel engine with 90bhp. All the engines will be linked to a 5-speed manual transmission as standard while an auto gearbox could be introduced at a later stage.
