The folks at Tesla Motors are having, probably, the best of times as the recently unveiled Model 3 had surpassed 276,000 pre-orders by the end of Saturday. Elated at such a phenomenal response, CEO Elon Musk, confirmed on Twitter that Tesla Motors would enter India even before the Model 3 goes in production. However, Musk didn't reveal the exact date but one can expect the company in India in early 2017.
@grebakshay We are working on an exact date, but Tesla will be in India before 3 production starts.— Elon Musk (@elonmusk) April 2, 2016
Model 3 will be RWD, with dual motor AWD optional. Even RWD will have great traction on ice due to fast torque response of Tesla drivetrain.— Elon Musk (@elonmusk) April 3, 2016
Musk had earlier announced on Twitter that Tesla would setup nationwide supercharger network in India, before the Model 3 goes on sale in the country. And, now, by the recent tweet of Musk, which says that Tesla would enter India before Model 3 production starts, it is quite clear that the company might be here early to start work on superchargers and destination chargers. "If you are in a mid-sized metro anywhere in North America, Europe or Asia, you will be able to buy and get the car serviced," Musk said. In addition, the company would double up the number of superchargers, stores and service centres by 2017 end, confirmed Musk.
Tesla Model 3 would be a rear-wheel-drive (RWD); though, there would also be all-wheel-drive (AWD) variant of the electric car. The Model 3 would feature air suspension which would dynamically adjust the ride height, especially in a country like India where road conditions are not very good. The Model 3, being Tesla Motors' most affordable offering at till date, would have 0.21 aerodynamic coefficient. Elon Musk also revealed the sketches of Model 3 via his official Twitter handle, while telling that production version AWD variant would boast of dual motors and would be the fastest. The Model 3 is priced at $35,000 and one can book the car online by paying $1,000, with deliveries expected in late 2017.
