India's largest carmaker Maruti Suzuki India has announced that the sales of its flagship hatchback Swift has crossed the 1 million mark in the country. Initially launched only in petrol version, the Swift diesel joined the line-up in 2007 and since then it never looked back. The mid-life facelift that came in 2011 further escalated the sales of the Swift brand.
What shows the dominance of the Maruti Suzuki Swift in the market is its constant sales even during market slowdown. Maruti Suzuki India is still selling around 12,000-13,000 units/month of the Swift in the market, accounting for 50 percent of total sales of its segment.
Maruti Suzuki Swift is currently sold in two engine options- a 1.2-litre K-Series engine and a 1.3-litre multijet diesel engine, capable of churning out a maximum power output of 86bhp and 74bhp respectively. Power is transmitted to the front wheels of the car via a five- speed manual transmission gearbox in both the versions.
And like we reported earlier, Maruti Suzuki is currently working on a facelifted version of the car, which will be rolled out in 2014, and the next-geneation Maruti Suzuki Swift will be launched in 2017.
