The 2016 Paris Motor Show is underway and one after another, eye catching launches are taking place. One such important and mesmerizing launch, which kept the media abuzz today is the Nissan's next-generation Micra Gen5 hatchback launch. The Gen5 Micra which will cater hatchback's biggest market Europe is a complete transformation from the current Micra.
The all-new Nissan Micra Gen5 that can make its way to India also is based on the Sway Concept and looks every bit as stunning when compared to the current model. The Sway Concept was unveiled at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show and gives the new Micra its lower, wider and longer body with body-length-defining character line and has more interior space.
To reiterate the design in detail, the Gen5 gets the Nissan’s V-motion grille, boomerang-shaped lights, a floating roof, rear door handles hidden in the C-pillars and an extended roofline that incorporates a spoiler. Apart from the Energy Orange shade that can be seen in the images revealed, the Micra Gen5 will be available in 10 body accentuating exterior colours. Also, additional exterior and interior personalization options will be available to create 125 different variations of the new Micra.
In terms of the cabin design, the all-new Micra will be offered with the best in class space, thanks to an extended width and wheelbase. The driving position is also lowered and a greater seat adjustment means Nissan has put a lot of focus on ergonomics. The dashboard gets a gliding-wing shaped dashboard, that has a full length body colored insert.
As for the features, a 7-inch full colour central display, providing access to the six-speaker Bose audio system, satellite navigation, mobile phone, downloadable apps and Siri voice control via Apple CarPlay are on offer. Micra Gen5 also gets an extensive set of safety features like the Lane Departure Prevention, Intelligent Emergency Braking with pedestrian recognition, Intelligent Around View Monitor, Traffic Sign Recognition, High Beam Assist and Blind Spot Warning.
The mechanical details of the new Micra are equally exciting. It will get a 0.9-litre turbocharged three-cylinder petrol engine and a 1.5-litre diesel unit, both developing 90 horses. Nissan will soon add a naturally aspirated 1.0-litre petrol engine with 73 hp power to the existing set of engines. Then there will be an Active Ride Control for enhanced ride comfort, Active Trace Control for reduced understeer and sharper handling, along with a new brushless electric power steering system.
The production of the new Nissan Micra will take place in Europe at the Renault plant in Flins, France, as part of the Renault Nissan Alliance. Sales to start early next year. No information on the Indian debut though!
