Almost two weeks ago, after renewing its contract with Marc Marquez, Honda had expressed its desire to keep Dani Pedrosa in the future. It did not come as a surprise from Honda Racing Team as Dani has been the most successful rider with the Japanese team.
Pedrosa currently lies at the third spot in the championship standings with points equal to the second placed Valentino Rossi. Pedrosa has won the title in 125cc and 250cc categories thrice, but has been a little unsuccessful in MotoGP from the time he started racing for Repsol Honda Team in 2006. He also won the 'Rookie of the Year' title in 2006 and has claimed second and third spot in the championships on six occasions (three each). Pedrosa has proven to be very crucial in Honda's 100 MotoGP wins that happened a few weeks ago and that's why his stay was very much important for the Honda Racing Team.
Commenting on the development, Shuhei Nakamoto, Executive Vice President, Honda Racing Corporation said, “We are very pleased to renew our contract with Dani. He is enjoying a very strong season and is currently tied with Rossi in the Championship, we are very happy with his performance. The partnership of Dani and Marc (Marquez) has proven to be successful and we look forward to another two years of success.”
Dani Pedrosa added by saying, "I'm very happy to be able to announce my renewal with the Repsol Honda Team, and grateful to Honda for the trust they have shown in me for a further two years. It’s the best way for me to continue in my racing career, together with the company I was with in my very first race. I am very excited to give my 100% and continue to work together with everyone at Honda Racing Corporation.”
