This should be one of the happiest news to come out from the world of motorcycles as far as India is concerned. Buoyed by the rise of the premium motorcycle market in India, Piaggio group seems to be thinking ahead of the curve and set up assembly for CKD Aprilia and Moto Guzzi premium bike offering in India.
It is to be noted that Piaggio already owns a factory at Baramati, Pune which manufactures Vespa scooters in India. Since the plants 1, 50,000 capacity is still largely untapped due the slow selling Vespa premium scooters, a segment that is sooner or later to explode with more offerings from other manufacturers. Also, the local assembly will enable Piaggio to price its entire Aprilia and Moto Guzzi range of bikes at way more aggressive prices than its competition.
When prices come down, it will also help Piaggio to bring a dealership concept where dealers will be able to sell all the brands under Piaggio umbrella in India, excluding APE. This would mean that dealers will get more profits and the customers , better prices and a wide spread dealer network.
We say, Bring it on Piaggio!!! We love this Idea!!!!!
