The Italian scooter manufacturer, Piaggio has showcased the new Vespa Elettrica scooter at the EICMA this year. Since many automakers are foraying into electrics, Piaggio too is looking forward to the same by introducing the new Vespa Elettrica. The scooter comes with the traditional Vespa looks on the outside and modern battery powertrain inside. The scooter is powered by an electric motor that put a 2kw of continuous power and 4kw of peak power.
The company states that it will perform like a 50cc traditional scooter especially in terms of initial acceleration and will have a range of around 100km. It will be offered in an X variant as well that will provide a range of 200kms (double of its standard variant). The X variant will deliver the double mileage by using a generator alongside the electric motor. This generator will be nothing but a tiny 4-stroke engine whose sole purpose will be to charge the battery continuously. The company claims a full charging time of 4 hours on the Elettrica scooter.
The scooter will feature a TFT display fitted with multimedia system and smartphone connectivity. It will be manufactured in Pontedera, Italy which will serve as its export center to the world.
