They say, what's in a name? But when your name Happens to be certain Mr. Pierre Terblanche and you are the person who was born in 1956 at South African region of Uitenhage, Eastern Cape. Your name then, not only means something, it means that you are among the rarest breed of men the history will remember as the greatest motorcycle designers of all times.

Having an inborn talent and then working with the Legendary Massimo Tamburini for more than a decade at Cagiva. Pierre's story is studded with a few of motorcycling world's greatest designs. He has a resume which talks about his hand being the guiding stroke behind the legendary Ducati's such as Multistrada, Sport Classic, and the Hypermotard. He was also at the helm of the design of  the 749/999 Supersports bikes, as profoundly capable they were, they were way more famous on the dark alleys where the hardcore Ducatisti world of yore hated and booed the designs. That is an another matter that the 999 in today's times can fetch some good money if kept in a good condition.

Soon after, Terblanche quit Ducati and joined with Piaggio on their Moto Guzzi line-up, along with former colleague Miguel Angel Galluzzi, the man who designed the Ducati Monster. After Piaggio, Terblanche had a short stint at the newly revived Norton Motorcycle Company, before leaving for Confederate Motors in the United States as head of product development. Under his stewardship, Confederate released their radical X132 Hellcat Speedster, a motorcycle that looks like nothing that ever came out a production line.

Now, with Pierre Terblanche at the helm of design, it heralds a new era for Royal Enfield motorcycles. Speaking to the press on the occasion, Siddhartha Lal, MD and CEO, Eicher Motors Limited said, “I am very excited that Pierre Terblanche has recently joined our team; he is one of the most prolific industrial designers for motorcycles, and is best known for having created some extra-ordinary motorcycles as the head of design for Ducati for over a decade.”

It is just a matter of time now, before you will be able to buy some of the most brilliantly designed from a Royal Enfield dealership close to you. If giving the freedom a man of caliber like that of Pierre deserves, Royal Enfield , might just turn a historic page in their history and as well as in the history of Niche manufacturers having deep solid roots in history.
