Porsche India launched its new mid-engine sports car the 718 Cayman and 718 Boxster at Rs 81.63 lakh and 85.53 lakh (Ex showroom, Delhi), respectively. Both, the 718 Boxster and 718 Cayman were unveiled in the US last year. Where the 718 Cayman complements the roadster in the mid-engine range, the Boxster distinguishes itself with a coupe appearance. The new models pays homage to the legendary Porsche race cars such as the 718 RSK.
In terms of style changes, both the models are similar with a new front and rear bumpers, redesigned side intakes to provide better cooling to the engine and new taillamps. The car now gets new exhaust with the standard model featuring a centrally-located trapezoidal exhaust tip. It also receive a revised steering system, which the brand claims that it is more direct than the outgoing models, where Porsche’s Active Suspension Management (PASM) is offered as an optional feature. Inside, the car comes with revised dashboard and the latest infotainment system (Porsche Communication Management).
Under the hood, the new powertrain shared by both the vehicles is a 2.0-litre that develops 300hp and 380 Nm of top torque in the entry-level model, that makes the Cayman more powered up by 25 bhp and Boxster by 35 bhp than its predecessor that was powered by a 2.7-litre six-cylinder unit. However, only the entry-level variant of both the models will be sold in the country, initially we can say, where more powerful Boxster S and Cayman S variants of the model previously available. Both cars come paired with a 7-speed automatic PDK gearbox and the company claims that the new engines can bolt from 0 to 100 kmph in just 5.1sec with a top speed of 275 kmph.
Recently, the company also launched the Platinum Edition of Cayenne SUV in India.
