After launching two performance versions of its performance focused model, 911 in India (911 GT3 & 911 GT3 RS), Porsche is gearing up to add another model to the 911 line-up-the 911 GT2 RS. Touted to be the most focused 911 model yet, the 911 GT2 RS is expected to launch in India sometime in July 2018. The company has already listed the price of Porsche GT2 911 on its official website at Rs 3.88 crore (ex-showroom, India).
Claimed to put out massive power and torque the 911 GT2 RS sits at the top of the Porsche line-up. It gets the same 3.8-litre, flat-six, twin-turbocharged engine which also powers the 911 Turbo, albeit the robust unit has been calibrated to emanate 700bhp against 750Nm torque. Transmission duties are carried out by Porsche’s ZF sourced seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox that has also been revised. The dual-clutch unit sends power to the rear wheels only.
The model sees significant drop in weight opposed to the standard 911 courtesy use of carbon-fibre on the bonnet, front wings, exterior mirror housings and air duct surrounds. Besides, the exhaust system is made of titanium which weighs 7kg lighter than before. It shares the magnesium roof with 911 GT3 RS which is offered as a standard provision. With the above changes the most hardcore 911 weighs 1,470 kg. Just like Spyder 918, a special Weissach Package is also available with the 911 GT2 RS which comprises a carbon-fibre roof and roll-bars and magnesium alloy wheels. The Weissach kit further helps reduce weight by 30 kg.
With substantial weight reduction and increased power output, the new 911 GT2 RS is claimed to be with quickest-accelerating Porsche, sprinting to 100 km/h from rest in just 2.8 seconds. It is also credited to be the joint-fastest road legal series-production Porsche with a top speed of 339km/h (same as Spyder 918) and the fastest production car in Nurburgring with a time of 6:47.30.
