German Luxury car maker, Porsche partners with ‘Women Beyond Boundaries’ (WBB) to go on a 20 day expedition across the Himalayas to support women’s empowerment through mobility. Founder of the WBB will be driving the 4,000 km route through challenging terrain along with her navigator Neha V Sadananda. For the expedition, Porsche India will provide a Cayenne SUV that is set to commence on 18 June from Gurgaon.
The Porsche Cayenne Diesel will be routed through a dozen of high-altitude passes, including Khardung La and Marsimik La, which are two of the highest motorable passes in the world. The drive will test the SUV’s endurance on some of the toughest and highest motorways in the world, testing its off-road capabilities across different terrain as well as riverbeds. ‘Women Beyond Boundaries’ is an organization that runs extreme overland journeys (XOL), pushing boundaries to achieve empowerment through mobility and as part of its core mission, it showcases mobility solutions adopted by women in the remote areas through which they traverse.
Aiming at this objective, WBB will educate local women in Ladakh on the topic of XOL driving to motivate their movement between remote communities. This will be achieved with the help of the local administration and community participation. Moreover, the expedition will also get connected with local communities to spread awareness on women’s health in collaboration with a reputed local NGO.
Speaking about the project, Pavan Shetty, Director of Porsche India, said: “We are absolutely delighted to partner with WBB on this unique initiative and see their activities as an essential contribution in the overall progress of women’s empowerment. Through this expedition, we want to support this cause and also showcase the endurance of the Cayenne in some of the most remote places in the world."
Under the hood, the Cayenne Diesel features a powerful 3.0-litre V6 turbo-diesel engine that pumps out 241bhp of power and has a top speed of 221kmph. The powertrain is connected to a 8-speed Tiptronic S gearbox that will be convenient during the on-road sections of the planned route. In terms of features, it is loaded with Assistance systems that includes Porsche Traction Management (PTM), Porsche Hill Control, and the Porsche Air Suspension Management (PASM).
