As we inch closer to the commercial debut of the all-new Tata Zest that is slated to get underway at the end of this month, the Indian automaker has officially opened the pre-launch bookings of the compact sedan. The booking amount is Rs 21,000 and the payment can be made online via debit/credit cards or via online bank transfer.
Interested customers need to visit the official Tata Zest website through which, they will be directed to nearest company showroom based on the city they live in. The booking amount will be directly transferred to the said dealership. Post launch of the Zest compact sedan, customers will be required to visit the showroom and put a pin of the variant and colour preference of their vehicle. While, the pre-launch bookings are underway, customers will only be able to chose the fuel type that will power the Tata Zest.
Under the hood of the Tata Zest, expect to see a 1.2-litre, 4-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine that is rated 75PS and 145Nm and a 1.3-litre Fiat-sourced diesel engine that puts out 75PS and 190Nm. Both engines have been coupled to a 5-Speed manual transmission. The diesel variant however, will also be offered with an Automated Manual Transmission (AMT.)
In the Indian market, the Tata Zest will replace the ageing and outdated Tata Indigo CS, which was the first sub-4 metre compact sedan ever made in India and, did exceedingly well in the market. However, with the onslaught of newer models such as the Honda Amaze, the Swift DZire and the Hyundai Xcent, Tata Motors needed to up its game, since the Indigo CS was falling short in front of the newer rivals. Apart from the aforementioned competitors, the Zest will also go up against the upcoming Ford Figo and the Datsun Go-based sub-4 metre compact sedan.
