The French car manufacturing giant PSA Group will launch its subsidiary Citroen brand in India, as the company disclosed its plans to make inroads into the country. The Group stated that by the end of the year 2021, Citroen’s first model will be offered in the Indian market. The proclamation today came two years after PSA expressed its plan to come back to India in association with the CK Birla Group.
The French conglomerate’s aim to set up operations in India is a strategic move in its attempt to grow its network and widen its presence in markets which are new for the Group. Unconventional style and design language along with excellent quality make the French car brand Citroen very popular. And according to PSA, the Citroen series of cars will be compliant to the new industry standards in the wake of the latest rules and regulations passed by the Indian government which will come into effect for the automotive industry later in 2019.
While so far there has been no official disclosure yet from PSA regarding the launch of the series of cars that could be launched bearing the Citroen brand name, however, recently a test mule of the Citroen C5 Aircross SUV was spied but it is not clear whether the Citroen SUV would join the league of the French car manufacturer’s list of cars for India.
Commenting on this development, Linda Jackson, Chief Executive Officer of Citroen, said, "We are very proud to launch Citroen in India, one of the fastest growing markets in the world. Building on the brand's success in Europe with 5 consecutive years of growth, I am convinced that Citroën’s selling proposition of unique styling, eco-friendly and comfortable cars at the heart of the market has all the potential to satisfy Indian customers".
