The Range Rover has been named ‘Autocar Asian Car of the Year’ 2014. This brings the total number of major awards to 69 for the Range Rover till date. The award was presented to Dr Ralf Speth, CEO of Jaguar Land Rover, at the Beijing Auto Show. The award is judged by 20 of the region’s most respected motoring journalists, including the editors of Autocar magazine in China, India, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam. Collectively, jury members have nearly 200 years of experience writing about and testing cars.
The Range Rover defeated cars like the stylish Citroën DS5, the sporty Jaguar F-Type and the Mercedes A-class among others. An initial list of 34 cars was selected for the awards. Speaking at the award ceremony, Speth said: "To win an award judged by so many experienced and respected journalists is a huge honour for the company. Asia is a fast-expanding market for us. We’ve listened to our Asian customers and developed tailor-made solutions to address our customers’ values and enhance their experiences.”
The award was started in 2012 and previous winners include the Audi A6 and BMW 3-Series.
