Renault’s riding on a happy wave with the Duster, having recently completed the landmark of 1-lac sales in less than two years – quite an achievement. The company has also introduced a limited edition ‘Adventure’ model. Now, keeping in mind demand from enthusiasts, it is working on a 4x4 variant of the Duster, which it hopes will increase the Duster’s off-road SUV appeal.
The Duster already has a tough image to it. This latest avatar will ensure that keen fans of the brand go mud-plugging or dune bashing all over, which is something that Mahindra has cultivated very successfully. Incidentally, Renault India already makes the Duster 4x4 version, which it exports to England and other right-hand drive markets. So the introduction of the 4x4 variant is just a matter of homologation.
We are not clear about the pricing strategy of the company, but expect it to cost a little over a lac over the comparative 4x2 model. Now, Renault – how about an automatic transmission version?
