Remember the entry-level hatchback from Renault codenamed XBA that was developed in India? Yes, the same hatchback was recently given the name Renault 'Kayou' and its world debut will take place on the coming 20th May, 2015 in Chennai. And now, an independent artist by the name Largus has released the realistic looking rendering of the car.
The Renault Kayou is a completely homegrown product that will be launched first in India followed by other markets like the Brazil and many other countries. It has been developed entirely at the RNTBCI (Renault Nissan Technology Business Centre India) in Chennai. The car will be produced at the Renault Nissan alliance plant in Oragadam, Chennai.
Renault Kayou will be based on the CMF-A (Common Module Family – Affordable) platform to achieve economies of scale. Powering Kayou will be a newly developed 800cc three cylinder petrol engine that will generate approximately 45-50 bhp and the power will be transferred via a 5 speed manual transmission. Renault could introduce AMT in later stage given its popularity surge in India.
Since the Kayou will be a budget hatchback, it will host lots of cost cutting features. Some of these features include 13” or 14” wheels wrapped in slim rubber tyres, and a single wiper blade. The top-of-the-line variant will get the front power windows, music system with speakers, mobile charging point and AC as standard features. Renault can also provide driver side airbag as a part of the safety features.
Renault Kayou will be placed below the Renault Pulse hatchback and will compete against the Maruti Alto and Hyundai Eon.
