Renault Koleos, the flagship product of the French autogiant, is all set to come in an all new avatar. The second generation of this SUV was captured as a test mule during its testing rounds with heavy camouflage in Southern Europe. It is being snapped for the first time and it will be launched in 2016, as confirmed by the company.
The spied prototype seems to be inspired a lot by the 2011 R-space concept and it is still in its early stages of development. Surprisingly, it appears bigger than the current version. The next generation Koleos is expected to dump its awful boxy shape and attain a more contemporary crossover like shape with a few characteristics of an MPV. Though unconfirmed, but most probably, it would be underpinning the Common Module Family (CMF) platform which is also visible in the latest version of Nissan X-Trail. The bonnet as well as the front grille - both appear enlarged. There is a strong possibility that it may come up with a 7-seat option, given the massive size. However, as mentioned earlier, it is a test mule and details might differ in the later stages of development.
As far as India is concerned, Koleos never got its due in the country and remained a lackluster SUV. Although, despite being an SUV, it was projected as a soft-roader by the company. Moreover, it came with automatic transmission only and there was no manual gearbox on offer with the lone variant. It is pitted against the likes of Toyota Fortuner, Hyundai Santa Fe and Mitsubishi Pajero Sport.
