Renault India has launched the Kwid 1.0L SCe at an introductory price of Rs. 3.82 Lakhs in the country. Being introduced in two variants: RxT and RxT (O), the Kwid 1.0L is merely Rs. 22,000 expensive than the 0.8L variants. It comes with subtle cosmetic upgrades over the existing model. During the launch event, it was learnt that the French automaker would launch the Kwid AMT in the next 6 months. Just so you know, Renault Kwid has registered over 165,000 bookings, while expected to touch the 1 Lakh sales mark next month in India.
Sumit Sawhney, Country CEO and Managing Director, Renault India Operations, said, "Renault Kwid has revolutionised the compact hatchback segment in India, delivering our promise of creating a new era in automotive history. It has generated unprecedented success in its category and has won the hearts of customers and automotive experts alike. At Renault, we are committed to continuous innovation and we are happy to launch the Renault Kwid 1.0L SCe today. With this launch, we look forward to welcoming more customers into Renault family as we endeavor to aggressively build our presence in India." The Kwid 1.0L SCe gets 7-inch touchscreen Media NAv system, Digital Instrument cluster, one-touch lane change indicator, radio speed dependent volume control, pro-sense selt belt pretensioners with road limters etc. as standard features. Identical to the 0.8L version, Renault Kwid 1.0L SCe has localization of over 98 percent.
The interior cabin of Kwid 1.0L SCe is similar to that of Kwid 0.8L. However, 1.0L decals on the doors and dual-tone wing mirrors distinguish it from the 0.8L sibling. Mechanically, it is powered by an all-new 1.0L SCe petrol engine, which develops 67bhp of top power and 91Nm of peak torque. The engine is mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox, while having a power/weight ratio of 97bhp/ton. It delivers an impressive fuel economy of 23.01kmpl, though less than Maruti Alto K10's 24.07kmpl but more than Hyundai Eon's 20.3kmpl. The Kwid 1.0L SCe has a boot capacity of 300 litres. "Our roadmap for India is very clear, with an immediate goal of achieving a market share of over 5 percent. We will continue with our product offensive strategy in India, as is reinforced by the Kwid 1.0L SCe launch, to substantially grow the Renault brand in India," added Mr. Sawhney.
