Renault India has announced that new variants of Kwid hatchback would be unveiled at the 2016 Auto Expo on February 3. The new variants, apparently, are the Kwid 1.0L and Kwid AMT. It is also being learnt that the French automaker could also offer Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) and dual front airbags as standard safety feature on the Renault Kwid 1.0L variant. Additionally, the company would also unveil a special edition of the Lodgy MPV at the 2016 Auto Expo.
The technical details of the Renault's new 1.0L engine are not known yet, but it is believed to be the more powerful and bigger version of Kwid's 800cc motor. Renault Kwid has worked exceptionally well for the company as it has recorded over 85,000 bookings in quite a small span of time, since its launch. Even the waiting period has gone up to 6 months at several regions for the Kwid. The introduction of more powerful 1.0L variant would further accentuate the sales of the small hatch, which lock horns with Maruti Alto K10 - the country's best selling hatchback in A-segment.
Renault Kwid AMT and Kwid 1.0L would be sold alongside the standard variants. Both would be the range-topping variants in the Kwid lineup. As mentioned earlier, both the new variants would carry ABS and dual front airbags as standard. Just so you know, the only safety feature that the Kwid comes with currently is the driver-side airbag. In other news, Renault would also launch the Duster facelift at the Auto Expo on February 4. Also, a couple of one-off vehicles like the Renault EOLAB concept and RenaultSport R.S.01 would also grace the company pavillion at the event.
