Renault India has started taking bookings for its upcoming hatchback - Kwid - nationwide at all the authorized dealerships. We earlier told you about the variants, features, and engine specifications of the Renault Kwid, and now we learnt that it would be launched either by the end of September or in October first week. Just so you know, Renault Kwid had its world premiere in India on May 20, 2015 and it is the company's new entry-level global hatchback. The Kwid hatchback would be locally manufactured at company's Chennai plant with over 98 percent of local content.
Renault Kwid would be launched in four trims: Std, RXE, RXL, and RXT. Being based on Renault's new modular CMF-A platform, it would have features like Digital instrument cluster, Grey upholstery, Gearshift indicator, and Internal boot release as standard. For those asking, Renault Kwid would be the only car in its segment to offer a 6-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Navigation. In addition, high-end features such as Remote keyless entry with central locking, Front fog lamps, Music system with radio, MP3, Bluetooth, USB, aux, 2 speakers. and Intermittent front wiper would be availabe on the flagship variant RXT. Also, the best-in-class ground clearance of 180mm would give it an edge over its foes.
Mechanically, it would be powered by Renault's newly-developed 0.8L, 3-cylinder petrol engine which is good for 54bhp. However, the USP of Kwid would be the swashbuckling fuel economy of 25.17kmpl, which makes it India's most fuel efficient car. The engine would be mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox, while an AMT gearbox would be introduced later. Additionally, the French automaker would offer 60 accessories for detailed personalisation and 2-year/50,000km warranty program with the Kwid. As for pricing, it has been told by Carlos Ghosn, Chairman & CEO, Renault-Nissan Alliance, that all the variants would be priced between Rs. 3-4 Lakhs (Ex. Showroom).
