Renault soon will unveil the electric version of its most-affordable hatchback – the Kwid at the 2019 Shanghai Motor Show. The Renault Kwid EV will be company’s smallest EV offering in the near future which has been built with its Chinese partner, Dongfeng Motors. The car will be produced at the Dongfeng Motors’ Shiyan facility, located in Central China that has a total production capacity of 120,000 units per annum.
Showcased as K-ZE concept at the 2018 Paris Motor Show and moreover, the production is also expected to don some cues from the concept form. It will get split-style headlamps, where the headlamps are separated by the LED daytime running lights along and large headlamp housing is placed below, stylish front grille. Coming to the rear end, the car will come with a set of newly designed LED taillamps that will speak more of its futuristic design along with a restyled bumper. The side profile of the Renault Kwid EV (Renault KZ-E) is similar to the regular Kwid, which is company’s one of the best selling product in India.
Speaking about the powertrain that will be used in the Kwid EV, it is jointly built by both Renault and Dongfeng Motors’ and it is a joint venture under the eGT New Energy Automotive, started last year. The details of the powertrain setup of the Kwid EV is in scarce, where the Renault Kwid KZ-E concept version has a claimed range of 250 km as per New European Driving Cycle (NEDC) and the car’s battery can be easily charged through public charging stations as well as domestic plugs.
The Renault Kwid EV will take some time to make its way in the Indian market, but in the meanwhile, Renault is working on its new MPV named as ‘Triber’, which is expected to witness its launch in few months.
