Renault India has officially announced that it would launch the Kwid hatchback on September 24, 2015 - tomorrow - in the country. Being based on Renault-Nissan Alliance's all-new CMF-A platform, it would have over 98 percent of localization and would be manufactured at company's Chennai facility. Just so you know, Carlos Ghosn, CEO & Chairman, Renault-Nissan Alliance, had announced during the world premiere of Renault Kwid that it would be priced between Rs. 3-4 Lakhs (Ex. Showroom).
As we told you earlier, Renault Kwid would be presented in four trims: Std, RxE, RxL and RxT. There won't be much features available with the base variant, as it would also miss out on A/C and power steering. Even the mid variant RXE would be deprived of power steering. As far as safety is concerned, there would be no Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) and Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD). However, the range-topping RxT variant can be ordered with driver-side airbag as an optional equipment. Renault Kwid would be up against the likes of Maruti Alto K10, Hyundai Eon and Chevrolet Spark.
On the engine front, Renault Kwid would come loaded with an all-new 0.8L, three-cylinder petrol engine. It would develop a maximum power of 53bhp and peak torque of 72Nm, while linked to a 5-speed manual transmission. Renaulr Kwid's mileage would be 25.17kmpl, which would make it India's most fuel efficient petrol car. And, a kerb weight of 660 kgs. has helped tremendously to achieve such a class-leading mileage. Reports have also indiciated that the French automaker would introduce an AMT gearbox with the Kwid next year. It is also being learnt that the company is also contemplating a more powerful 1.0L petrol motor, so that Kwid can stand tall against the likes of Maruti Alto K10 and the Hyundai Eon 1L.
