Renault India has recalled the Kwid hatchback in India over faulty accelerator issue. The faulty accelerator pedal and sensor have caused sudden increase in speed and engine rpm. The inspection and replacement of the affected accelerator pedals and sensors will be done by the authorized service centres without any cost to the customer. However, the number of affected cars and manufacturing period of those models are yet to be disclosed by the French automaker.
Apart from replacing the accelerator pedals and sensors, ECU of the affected cars need to be reprogrammed as well. This recall program has been silently issued by the brand after some customers have reported unintentional acceleration. While the issue could become a serious safety threat, there are no mishaps reported yet due to this problem.
Previously, in January this year the automaker recalled Kwid hatchback to fix steering issues. That problem was reported in the 0.8-litre variant of the small hatch. It is not sure, if the accelerator issue affected both the 0.8-litre and 1.0-litre variant or any one of them.
Kwid has been the most successful cars in India from Renault. Thanks to its high demand, India has become one of the top six markets in the world for the French brand. Inspired by its success, Renault has promised to roll out new variants of the Kwid in domestic market. The Kwid introduced a fresh styling in the highly competitive hatchback segment of Indian market. It sports a bulky and muscular look that adds zing to this model. Inside the cabin too, it looks stylish and the car is available in both manual and AMT gearbox options that help it in becoming much more appealing to the buyers.
