Renault Kwid has turned the small hatch segment upside down by recording over 1 Lakh bookings in the country. Recently, Mr. Sumit Sawhney, Managing Director and country CEO, Renault India, while speaking to IAB, revealed that the Kwid has registered 1.10 Lakh bookings across the nation and the company has no choice, but to start a third shift to increase the production. Now, the French autogiant would manufacture 10,000 units of Kwid per month at its Chennai factory to reduce the waiting period on the hatch.
The Kwid hatch has contributed substantially in the company's increasing market share. Besides India, Renault Kwid would also be exported shortly to a couple of overseas markets like Mauritius and Sri Lanka. In addition, it is being learnt that Renault is contemplating to export it as parts and components to the South American markets, with Europe probably being the next. Just to add to your knowldege, Renault Kwid has a general waiting period of nearly eight months. The company even hiked the price of the hatch last month by Rs. 11,000 in the country.
Renault Kwid's base variant, at the time of its launch last year, had a sticker price of Rs. 2.56 Lakhs (Ex. Showroom). Now, after the increase in price, it costs Rs. 2.59 Lakhs (Ex. Showroom). On the similar lines, the range-topping RXT (O) variant currently comes at an introductory price of Rs. 3.64 Lakhs (Ex. Showroom) as compared to Rs. 3.53 Lakhs (Ex. Showroom), which was its price when it was launched last year. For those asking, Renault showcased two more variants of the Kwid at the 2016 Auto Expo: a more powerful 1.0L engine variant and AMT gearbox variant. Both the aforementioned Kwid models are expected to be launched in this year in the country.
