There is no doubt that Renault has received great response for its entry level hatchback Kwid, since its launch in September 2015. The hatchback has entered into the domain of the Maruti Suzuki in the small car segment. Recently, the company also launched the AMT version of the Kwid 1L and it seems the brand is in no mood to take a break on this. Reportedly, Renault is planning to introduce more Kwid variants in future.
Speaking to the Autocar India, company’s CEO and Managing Director Sumit Sawhney said, "Customers needn't wait for years, but only months to see something new on the Kwid. You will see some excitement on a sustained basis. I also look forward to seeing sustained life-cycle management."
Till now, the company has sold over 1,07,033 units of the Kwid hatchback in the country. It is the first time that Renault has marked this achievement with its successful product, Kwid. And to maintain this positive sales, the company plans to launch a new variant of the Kwid every year. Since January 2016 till October 2016, Renault sold 1,11,387 units of its vehicles compared to 35,786 units sold in the corresponding period last year, a growth of 211.7 percent.
At the 2016 Auto Expo, Renault showcased Kwid Climber and racer concepts, making them the closest possibility to transform into production reality in future. Going by the name of the models – the Kwid Climber is an off-roader, featuring high ground clearance, short overhangs and side protective mouldings along with specially-designed tyres and diamond cut wheels, while inside, it wears the Nappa leather upholstery and for the steering wheel as well.
Kwid Racer is a track driving car, as the name suggests and features a wide air intakes, diffuser, spoiler, 18-inch alloy wheels with low profile tyres and inside, it gets roll cage, bucket seats with four-point harness and digital tachometer.
Thought, the production version of these two models will be bit toned down, to keep a check on the pricing of the models. We can expect it to launch in mid 2017.
