In the year 2012 Renault had launched their model ‘Scala’ with petrol option only. This year Renault has introduced a diesel version of the ‘Scala’. The version is called ‘Scala RxE’ and comes with a base level powerful diesel engine as well as added features. With the launch of this ‘entry-level model’ Renault India now offer both diesel and petrol variants.
‘Scala RxE’ has a one point five Litre ‘K9K’ Diesel Engine which can achieve a speed of eight four point eight BHP and has an 5 Speed gear box which is operated manually. The car also has a safety ‘airbag’ for the driver, and ‘anti lock braking system’ along with ‘electronic brake force distritbution’ systems. It has a very sophisticated entertainment segement as well. It has ‘vents’ at the back of the car which cool the vehicle and the windows which are operated with power.
‘Scala RxE’ comes with ‘Renualt’s car care package’, which offers two plus two years and eighty thousand KM ‘warranty’ for car care for this model as well as for ‘sedan’. The company is also offering both ‘road side’ and ‘navigation’ assistances.
This model was introduced quietly without any noise and usual fan fare which normally accompanies launch of new models in the Indian car market. The piece comes with the starting price of Rupees eight lakhs and seventy nine thousands. The offer provides a ‘good value for money’ but has to compete with other models like ‘Sunny XL’ from Nissan which has added functions. Though the model from Nissan is priced Rupees five hundred extra but it has an extra air bag for the front row passenger as well as ‘climate control’ system. Nevertheless, Scala RxE is spacious and for the entry level vehicle offers good facilities. It would be interesting to follow how far this model is likely to grab the attention of discerning car enthusiasts in the country.
