Renault India independently commenced its operations in India four years ago and the company is aiming to cross the one lack mark in the year 2016. Going by the sales data, since January to August 2016, Renault India have sold 87,000 units out of which 65,000 units are the Kwid hatchback. Whereas the brand sold only 50,000 units last year.
Speaking on this, Sumit Sawhney, country CEO and MD of Renault India said, "So far from January to August 2016, we have sold 87,000 cars out of which 65,000 units are Kwid. We hope that full-year sales will cross 1 lakh."
Speaking on the company’s strategy, he also added that the company will launch a new product starting from the year 2017 and right now, it is in the portfolio development mode.
Pointing at the minicar segment, Sumit Sawhney said that Kwid, the mini car from the Renault stable, was among the top 10 best-selling cars in the country at the moment. Renault will also export Kwid from India to the SAARC countries - Nepal, Sri Lanka, Bhutan and Bangladesh. While the car will also be manufactured from its Brazil facility, being the second country to manufacture Kwid.
Recently, looking at the response of the Kwid hatchback, the company also launched the Kwid 1.0L SCe in the country and its main focus is on growing volumes. From January to August 20016, Renault India was at 4.5% and the company’s intention is to touch 5 percent by the end of 2016.
Currently, Renault’s portfolio in the country consists of Kwid, Pulse, Scala, Duster, Lodgy, Fluence and Koleos.
