Renault seems ready with its awaited product that are scheduled to launch this year, Renault Kwid 1L SCe and the Kwid AMT. Both the models made their public debut at the 2016 Auto Expo. Since the launch of of the Renault Kwid in September 2015, the hatchback has been a game changer for Renault, where the company has marked over 125,000 bookings of the Kwid hatch.
When asked about the new variants of Kwid, Mr. Sumit Sawhney, Renault India’s CEO and Managing Director “We have plans to bring in a 1,000cc engine capacity variant of the Kwid, along with an automated manual transmission (AMT) variant. At least one of these variants should be available within the first half of the year.”
At present, in this segment, Maruti Alto K10 is the only model available with an automatic transmission option, while Hyundai Eon comes with a more powerful 1-litre engine, but comes with a manual transmission option. The Renault Kwid will be powered by a 1.0-litre three-cylinder SCe petrol engine (company has not revealed details yet).
The 0.8L engine of the Kwid delivers an ARAI-rated fuel efficiency of 25.17kmpl that makes it more fuel efficient than the Maruti Alto 800 and Hyundai Eon. Reportedly, in terms of safety the Renault Kwid 1L and the Renault Kwid AMT are expected to come with an option of ABS along with dual front airbags and other features like touchscreen MediaNAV multimedia and navigation system, front power windows and digital instrument cluster.
