Renault has confirmed to launch a 7-seater Kwid in India next year. The car is likely to be showcased at the 2018 Indian Auto Expo.

Initially codenamed as RBC, the car is expected to be a compact MPV measuring under 4 meters in length. It could be resembling the Datsun Go+ that is also a 7-seater vehicle having a length less than 4 meters.

The seven-seater Renault Kwid will be based on the CMF-A+ architecture, which is a slightly longer version of the CMF-A (common module family) platform. Gérard Detourbet, Managing Director of the Renault–Nissan Alliance, A-Segment development unit, has hinted that the 7-seater Kwid will be followed by another car on the same CMF-A+ platform over a period of time, which could possibly be developed by Nissan. But it is not known whether it will also be a seven-seater.

"It's clear that we did not create the platform (CMF-A) only for one car. On each platform, we can develop a lot of things. Not only because we can use different types of bodies but also because we have a lot of possible branding", Detourbet added.

The Renault Kwid has been a successful car in the Indian market, with a sales unit of over 2 lakhs in approximately 2 years. The car offers two engine options - 0.8 litres and 1 litre, both of them having three-cylinder petrol units. The 7-seater Kwid sibling is expected to get the bigger engine, generating a maximum power output of 67 Bhp and a peak torque of 91 Nm, which can be considered sufficient for Indian road conditions. As far as the transmission is concerned, the 7-seater is expected to be equipped with a 5-speed manual and AMT gearbox, similar to the Kwid 1.0.

The car is likely to be tagged at a very affordable price as it is developed on the low-cost CMF-A+ platform. We can expect a starting price of below Rs. 5 lakhs. The RBC 7-seater is probably to be manufactured at the Renault-Nissan joint manufacturing unit located at Oragadam, Chennai.
