Renault India, the Indian subsidiary of the French automajor, would hold the world premiere of company's all-new XBA (codename) global hatchback in the country on May 20, 2015. This sub-compact hatchback is expected to be launched in a price domain of Rs. 2.5-4 Lakhs (Ex. Showroom) and targeted towards masses. It is also being reported that Carlos Ghosn, CEO, Renault Nissan is likely to be present in India to unveil this new car.
Underpinning an all-new modular 'CMF-A' platform in India, the XBA would come loaded with an all-new petrol engine. It would also mark the debut of CMF platform in the country. However, quite uncharacteristically, it would be styled like a crossover like large wheel arches and immense ground clearance - if initial reports are to be believed. The Renault XBA would be the company's new entry-level vehicle in the country and would be positioned below the Pulse hatchback. It is expected to give Maruti Suzuki Alto, Hyundai Eon and Chevrolet Spark a good run for their money. The company has extremely high hopes from this new car as it sees it to be the next major sales generator after Duster & Lodgy.
As told before, Renault XBA hatch would have a 800cc, 3-pot petrol motor which would generate maximum power in range of 45-50bhp. The engine would be linked to manual gearbox as well as the current flavour-of-the-season the automated manual transmission (AMT). Being codenamed as BR-8, this same engine would be available with the South American version, albeit with a flex-fuel feature (petrol and ethanol). The company says that it is focusing towards maximum fuel efficiency rather than power as it is basically a city car.
