Renault's New Small Car Makes Global Debut in India; Named KWID

Renault, the French-auotmaker, has finally unveiled its much anticipated cost-effective new small car in India. Being christened as Renault Kwid, it is now the company's new entry-level global offering. It would be launched in the country during the festive season; most probably in the month of October 2015. Carlos Ghosn, Chairman and CEO, Groupe Renault & Sumit Sawhney, Country CEO & Managing Director, Renault India Operations were present on this occasion.

"We have a very clear focus on establsihing ourselves in the growing and volume segments of the Indian automobile industry. Alongside out aggressive product information plans, we are also determined to offer customers the best experience with our brand and will continue to introduce several initiatives towards achieveing that, encompassing our strategy of accessible mobility, shared Sumit Sawhney, Country CEO & Managing Director, Renault India Operations. Dimensionally, the Renault Kwid measures 3680mm in length and 1580mm in width. In addition, it has a fairly high ground clearance of 180mm.

"With KWID, Renault continues to pursue its strategy of accessible mobility for all to step up its international growth. Using a new Renault-Nissan Alliance platform and following the trail blazed by the Duster, the KWID will enable Renault to continue its expansion and address the needs of customers who want a vehicle that is stylish, robust and easy to use" shared Carlos Ghosn, Chairman and CEO, Groupe Renault, about the new launch by Renault. Renault Kwid is the first Renault-Nissan Alliance vehicle to be based on the CMF-A platform.

Inside the cabin, there is a piano black centre console with chrome finishing and it houses the Media-Nav multimedia/navigation system which comes with a 7-inch display - a segment-first feature. It is also compatible with radio and bluetooth for hands-free telephony. The company has confirmed that the Maruti Alto & Hyundai Eon rival would be priced in a bracket of Rs. 3-4 Lakhs (Ex. Showroom). For those asking, Renault Kwid would also feature an optional driver's side airbag.
