If the latest reports are to be believed, Tata Motors have dropped their initial plans of launching a sportier version of the Tata Bolt, which was scheduled to go on sale later this year and has also been a part of the 2016 Auto Expo in Delhi. Instead it will be releasing an upgraded version of the Tiago which will also be a sporty variant. The reason behind such a crucial decision might have been the huge downfall of sale for the Bolt, whereas the Tata Tiago became quite popular in the market and have been going strong and steady till date.
Motor Cruze has recently posted a render image of the car which hints that Tata might retain several design elements that the upgraded version of the Bolt was to come out with in this car. It will feature a blacked out C pillar, sporty bumper, projector headlamp setup with DRL, larger exhausts and side skirts as well as new alloy wheels.
Although there isn’t much information related to its specs, the car would likely be powered by a 1.2 litre three cylinder Revtron petrol engine which can generate an output of around 120 PS along with 170 Nm of peak torque. A 5-speed manual transmission will be mated to the engine. In India, it is expected to launch in November 2016. The all new Tiago might just come with a very modest price tag for a performance-centric hatch and should give tough competition to other brands.
