Report - Yamaha soon to initiate Stop Sale Recall for 2015 YZF-R1 citing Gearbox Issue in USA!

Snapshot: Yamaha is recalling 2015 Yamaha YZF-R1 due to fault y gearbox components...

Just a year ago, Yamaha unveiled highly anticipated and an overdue upgrade to its iconic R1 superbike at EICMA 2014 and as they say rest is history. Model year 2015 has been the year of the superbike, with almost all the key players showing off their superbike contenders in their latest up-spec avatars, proving that the superbikes aren't dead yet and there are still takers and manufacturers still willing to take on the mantle to prove their position as the best superbike manufacturer on the planet.

The 2015 Yamaha YZF-R1 has pretty much nailed it for the parent company, since the world over it has been considered and has achieved top slots in all the comparisons it has featured alongwith its rivals. However, there is a bad news coming in for you, if you have got yourself, the 2015 YZF-R1 or its track only twin, the YZF-R1M, then as per reports coming out from USA your possession might just be a part of a 'Stop Sale' recall that has been caused mainly due to a defects that affects the bike's gearbox.

As per the report, the soon to be initiated recall essentially affects a very small number of units of the 2015 Yamaha superbike twins and as said, is due to some R1's gearbox components might have inadequate strength, that may lead to seizure of transmission under extreme shifting and thus can lead into a crash, something which last time we checked, none among us likes.

Our friends at Asphalt&Rubber are reporting through their sources that the recall focuses on second gear wheel and pinions, which are susceptible of breakage under extremely high stress or improper shifting. It has been caused essentially by inadequate component strength and stress concentration at the bottom land for the gear teeth. In addition to second-gear wheel issue, the third and fourth-gear wheels may also be deformed or break, again as a result of hard usage, and again due to inadequate component strength.

For the rectification of the same issue, Yamaha is starting a campaign called 'Factory Modification Campaign', in which Yamaha will be replacing the transmission assemblies of the affect units with new ones. The recall is expected to be announced by end November while it should take place by mid December.

There is no news regarding the recall affecting any units sold in India thus far, however, we will be keeping you updated regarding developments on it.
