In an attempt to reveal the Honda BR-V in bits and pieces, the Japanese manufacturer has revealed the 7-seat configuration of the upcoming compact SUV. The seating configuration was revealed during a presentation on the sidelines of the Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS 2015). Honda earlier revealed the exteriors of the SUV a couple of days back.
The new crossover SUV from Honda will house three row seating configuration, giving it an advantage on the traditional 5-seat compact crossovers like Renault Duster, Hyundai Creta and Maruti S-Cross in India. Honda is confident about the BR-Vs seating layout - a 2+3+2 structure - which, according to the Honda will have the best-in-class third row space.
BR-V, which stands for Bold Runabout Vehicle, has an appeal of an SUV with a cabin space of an MPV and will be based the Brio platform which also underpins Amaze and Mobilio. Honda has also revealed the cabin design and it is inspired by some of the new cars from Honda, like the Honda City and Honda Jazz, rather than that of Mobilio.
While the interiors will be based on the Jazz and the City, the powertrain would be Mobilio sourced for the India-spec BR-V. The engine lineup will include a 1.5-litre i-VTEC petrol engine producing 118 PS and a 1.5-litre i-DTEC diesel engine producing 100 PS. While the diesel and petrol both will come mated to a 5-speed manual transmission, automatic gearbox is also an option.
Honda BR-V is most likely to make its Indian debut at the 2016 Auto Expo. Honda Car India will try to maximize the localization of the BR-V so that prices can be kept under the tab. We are expecting a price range of Rs 8.5 Lakh to Rs 12 Lakh.
