Rise of Adventure sport segment - KTM 390 Adventure Imported into the Country!

Snapshot: So how close are we to see the production ready bikes?

With the rise of the motorcycle touring as a passion and a weekend gate away for the riders in India grew, it was a matter of time, that the much neglected Adventure Sports Touring motorcycle segment started getting attention from manufacturers and riders. Only recently we saw Bajaj launching it Pulsar AS twins of AS200 and AS150 bringing touring advantage with slightly more than usual off road capabilities , thereby bringing possibly the first true intent to kick start the segment in India.

Now if there has been one bike that has the potential and aura of making it big in the sensibly priced adventure sport touring motorcycle segment than it has got to be the under development KTM 390 Adventure, based on the platform of the proven hooligan, the Duke 390 this motorcycle will come in the avatar of a adventure sport motorcycle, a category that KTM knows like no other. According to the Export-Import website Zauba, KTM has just imported two units of the 390 Adventure to India, which has been code named KT22.

Expected to borrow engine (albeit in a different state of tune) , and other essential mechanicals from the Duke 390, the Adventure will get beefier suspension with longer travel and a higher ground clearance. The tyres too will be inclined to have off-road traction and braking should be cared by the brake units from the Duke 390 itself.  Saying that, keeping the tradition alive, the 390 Adventure will possibly come with luggage mounts, larger wind deflector and knuckle guards among others. The motorcycle will also get redesigned lights, newer and more comfortable seats and a side-mounted exhaust.

KTM has been either tight lipped or wary of disclosing much about the bike, and it is also not sure if and when KTM would decide to bring one to India, however, as is now the business model, the 390 Adventure will be manufactured at the Bajaj's manufacturing facility.
