Quite simply, it is the sexiest Rolls-Royce ever built - if this is what the Chief Executive Officer of a company like Rolls-Royce Motor Cars has to say about a car, we will not dare challenge his opinion. Yes, these were the exact words of Torsten Müller-Ötvös, CEO of Rolls Royce while unveiling the Dawn Drophead today. And like the super luxurious and gorgeous car, the unveiling event was unique in itself.
Rolls Royce unveiled the Dawn Drophead through a digital launch event worldwide, broadcasting the proceedings from the Rolls Royce's factory in Goodwood, UK. This is not the first time the uber-luxury car manufacturer used the Dawn name for one its cars, as the manufacturer sold 28 units of factory-built Silver Dawn drop head from 1950 to 1954.
And not only the moniker, but RR also carried forward the design language from the original Silver Dawn, making a fine example of proper 4-seater drop head Dawn, and not a 2+2, like some of the other drop heads. While the Phantom drop head attracts royalties from worldwide, Dawn, which is based on the Wraith and Ghost is aimed towards a more youthful audience.
"Our new Rolls-Royce Dawn promises a striking, seductive encounter like no other Rolls-Royce to date, and begins a new age of open-top, super-luxury motoring. Dawn is a beautiful new motor car that offers the most uncompromised open-top motoring experience in the world. A true four-seater, it will be the most social of super-luxury drophead motor cars for those who wish to bathe in the sunlight of the world's most exclusive social hotspots", said Torsten.
BMW Group owned Roll Royce's Dawn, as contrary to the popular thought, has nearly 80 percent of the body panels different to the Wraith. The retractable soft top takes 22 seconds flat to open or close, at speeds up to 50 kmph. The whole process of retraction makes no sound, inline with the RR's philosophy of “total silence”.
And if the exteriors are anything to drool upon, interiors will make anyone fall in love with the Dawn instantly. Glazed in bright orange “Mandarin” interior and complimented by a lustrous “Midnight Sapphire” paint-job, the Dawn is exemplary in luxury. Rolls Royce claims that the Dawn is as silent as the Wraith even with the roof down.
Torsten adds, "The name 'Dawn' perfectly suggests the fresh opportunities that every new day holds – an awakening, an opening up of one's senses and a burst of sunshine. In its tentative, inchoate, anticipatory state, dawn is the world coming to light from the ethereal dark of the night. The early-day chill of dawn provides an erotic tingle on the skin, awakening the senses and passions as the day begins."
The Dawn comes equipped with the BMW iDrive system, a touch-pad, hidden 10.25″ high-definition screen, heads-up display, and a Bespoke Audio system with sixteen individually-tuned speakers. The drop head is powered by a 6.6-litre V12, 563 horsepower motor, that pushes Dawn from 0 to 100 kmph in just 4.9 seconds.
Surprisingly, the first model year of the Dawn is already sold out, and the deliveries will start from early next year. Rolls Royce is yet to announce the official pricing of the Dawn and it will be manufactured in Sussex, United Kingdom, Rolls-Royce’s home.
