It has been quite some time since Chennai city has been fighting with the greatest rainfall of the century. Flood caused by the heavy rains left Chennai city fully submerged in water. Chennai is the home city for many of the auto makers including Royal Enfield (a division of Eicher Motors India). The company suffered a huge production loss of 4,000 motorcycles in November and 7,200 in the first week of December.

The plant was totally shutdown from December 1 to 6 to prevent any damage to the plant’s property. According to the reports, there is no plant or machinery loss and the production has already been resumed to 50 per cent this week and is expected to go to 100 per cent soon. The transportation loss is yet to be recovered, and the whole event has resulted in the further extension of the waiting period for Royal Enfield motorcycles. According to dealers, the waiting period might climb up to six to seven months due to the production loss.
