The Chennai-based motorcycle maker has today launched the most anticipated bikes of the year, the Continental GT 650 and the Interceptor 650 in the Indian market at Rs 2.49 lakh (Ex-showroom, Karnataka) and Rs 2.34 lakh (Ex-showroom, Karnataka), respectively. In terms of mechanicals and specs, the bikes compete head-on to the Harley-Davidson Street 750 and the Street Rod 750, but are much more affordable compared to the American products which retail at Rs 5.25 lakh (Ex-showroom, Delhi) and Rs 5.86 lakh (Ex-showroom, Delhi), respectively.
The bikes run on the same 648cc, air-cooled, SOHC, fuel-injected parallel-twin engine which generates close to 47hp of maximum power at 7,100rpm and 52Nm of peak torque hits at 4,000rpm. The engine comes married to a 6-speed transmission.
In terms of equipment and features, the bikes are fitted with a conventional front telescopic fork and gas-charged twin shock absorbers at the rear. The braking power is handled by a 320mm single disc at the front wheel while the rear braking is done by a 240mm disc. The bikes come fitted with dual-channel ABS as a standard safety feature.
