After a long wait, Royal Enfield has finally unveiled their all new and the most powerful engine till date. The company has pulled the covers off the new parallel-twin 650cc engine that will make it to the future mass-produced Royal Enfield motorcycles.
What is the new engine all about?
The new 650cc parallel-twin engine is an air-cooled unit (so as to carry forward the Royal Enfield ‘legacy’ as stated by the company) that gets an oil cooler for better heat management. The engine utilizes a 4-valve structure and 270-degree forged crank. The engine comes mated to a 6-speed transmission that also uses a slip-assist clutch.
Talking about the power and specs, the new 650cc parallel-twin engine delivers 47hp of a maximum power at 7,000rpm while a peak torque of 52Nm arrives at a low 4,000rpm. The company has also shared hints on the exhaust note from the new engine saying that this engine will not have the signature thump of the Royal Enfield motorcycles but instead will produce a distinctive signature rumble.
The company plans to roll out bikes based on this engine by April next year and as per current reports, a series of café racer motorcycle will host this new engine in India followed by retro-classic motorcycles. Stay tuned to Autoportal for more information.
